INITIATIVE #195 GRADUATED INCOME TAX (GIT) PETITIONS

From the League of Women Voters:
Petitions are now circulating to get a Graduated Income Tax (GIT) on the fall ballot. Currently Colorado has a flat tax which means that those making $20,000 in annual income are taxed at the same rate at those making over $500,000. If we are successful in getting this on the ballot and it passes, 97% of Coloradans will see a decrease in their taxes or no change to their taxes. It is expected that $2B a year will be raised which will be earmarked for education (including teacher pay raises), childcare, and healthcare -- areas with current major shortfalls in our budget.
If this Initiative makes it on the ballot and the amendment passes:
Additional funds collected through a graduated income tax are earmarked for education, early childhood education and childcare, and healthcare -- it could be used to help mitigate some of the shortfall to Medicaid revenues as the result of HR.1 and current Colorado revenues.
The Colorado Legislature will be the body that will determine how these additional funds will be allocated to those areas specifically earmarked in the ballot measure.
You must be an active registered Colorado voter in order to sign this petition though you need not live in (a southwest ) county. If individuals are not sure or they have become inactive voters,, they can quickly and easily check and update their voter registration at GoVoteColorado.gov .
Sign up for a petition circulator training or if already trained sign the MOU (your intent to petition.)
The League of Women Voters would love to have Indivisible Durango folks circulating petitions ASAP. Good Food Collective (GFC) will be the official petition hub (contact is Louise). They will have petitions to distribute starting May 20th. They are located at 278 Sawyer Dr, Suite 1A
