FLOCK Camera System
Durango City Council and the Durango Police Department have allowed installation of a system of surveillance throughout Durango.
While we do not want to impede our law enforcement from being able to find/catch criminals in our area, there is concern about the use of this to ensnare those in our local immigrant community. The city of Durango operates 21 Flock cameras across the city. Records requests revealed that Durango Police Department (DPD) has shared access to its camera network with 603 agencies across the country, 60 of which have current partnerships with ICE known as 287(g) agreements. These agreements allow a local law enforcement agency to operate in a similar capacity as ICE, conducting searches for migrant persons, serving administrative warrants, and interrogating arrested individuals about their immigration status. Our local law enforcement is NOT cooperating with ICE but the FLOCK systems can make information accessible to ICE through other agencies.
